10:17 pm - Extra Ticket for Jeff Dunham at the Crest Theater 21 SEPT

ericsilverbear
I have an extra ticket to see Jeff Dunham at the Crest Theater on Friday, the 21st of September.

Here's the crux: I bought three tickets for myself, my wife and my daughter. My wife has to take our only car out of town that day ... SO ... My extra ticket goes to whoever can give a ride there and back!!! We live off the Mather Field exit on US 50.

Cross posted to various Sacramento Area communities.

8:48 am - TV Opportunity

aleeceh
I really doubt anyone is going to be interested in participating in this, but I'll go ahead and post it as requested. To me, something like this just seems to have more potential for harm than good, both for polyamory as a whole and for you and your partners. If you're considering it, just be very wary, and look over the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom's tips for talking with the media.

To Whom It May Concern:

The documentary-style show is called “Wife Swap.” Please don’t be thrown off by the title – it is a family-centered program that airs on ABC primetime. The premise is simple: two moms from two different families have the opportunity to swap lives for a week to experience what it’s like to live a different lifestyle. The goal of the swap is for both families to take away something positive from the experience – both by teaching another family about their beliefs and values, and by learning something new about the way other people live.

I was hoping to enlist your help getting the word out about this opportunity. I understand that many individuals who are polyamorous prefer to remain anonymous and feel that it is best if that aspect of their lives is not made public knowledge – which I totally respect. Of course, appearing on television is not for everyone! By casting a wide net, it’s my hope that I can find a family who would be excited about bringing their lifestyle to another family, and the rest of the country. The ideal family would delight in the opportunity to share their views publicly and be comfortable speaking candidly about their beliefs and philosophies. Perhaps this family is a member of your yahoo group? If you felt comfortable, it would be great if you could post this message to your members.

Our show is looking for a family where there are at least two parents living in the home, and at least one child between the ages of 5-18 who resides there full time. Families who are chosen to participate on the show receive a $20,000 honorarium. Referrals for great families are always welcome, and if an individual refers a family that is selected for the show, we will give them a $1,000 finder’s fee.

Interested families can reach me at (646) 747 7959 or at Meghan.McGinley@rdfusa.com. Thank you in advance for your help, and please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or feedback.

Sincerely,
Meghan McGinley

10:27 am - Hello, and me

tetrakatus
Some of you know me already, many of you don't. I've been interested in polyamory as a concept for a long time. I grew up believing in universal love for everyone, and while I know not all polyamory practitioners have this philosophy, the idea of polyamory can easily extend from that philosophy.

I've now had enough relationships of different varieties that I think I can claim some experience, both good and bad. I'm not bashful about details, but I don't want to make this a personal novel. One of the first times I was truly in love, and felt someone was in love with me, was in a poly relationship, where I was a second. Which was fine with me, although I always felt a little weird, as I didn't know if her first really was OK with everything, and I like being as honest as possible, when possible, and "above board" on things. In either case, I don't think this is what broke things off, there were other incompatibilities, and life issues for both of us.

My last/current relationship was not initially poly, it was/is with someone who I thought could become a life partner (possibly monogamous, possibly poly) but due to our different paths, life partnership is not possible. But we are still good friends, and sleeping with each other, attempting "friends with benefits" (I really hate that term, but I'll use it for now). We still have a lot of love and caring for each other, and I suspect our friendship will be lifelong.

I don't know if I want to try and have other relationships also (with openness of course with all parties involved). I don't know if life partnership (monogamous or poly) is even possible for me, although it is something I have always romantically desired. Or maybe it can be multiple, with different people fulfilling different needs? Or I ask myself, if I am thinking about being poly, because I want the confidence of knowing I'm still in a relationship to seek a new one. If this is the reason I'm doing it, then that of course would not be ethical, and I shouldn't do that. Unfortunately true self-awareness sometimes takes mirrors and bouncing boards.

I know some of this may not even exactly fall under the idea of poly, but I thought if any group of people are open minded enough to be able to look at things from a different perspective it would be the sac poly group.

11:01 am - Poly Family Picnic/BBQ in Mt. View 8/26

aleeceh
There are not a lot of details at this point. It's more of a save-the-date announcement. More info here. I've created a calendar entry on the Yahoo! Group, and will update it as further details become available.

Please don't confuse this with our own picnic that Doug has proposed. We will still be doing that; this Mountain View picnic is separate event planned by someone else.

With permission from Oberon Zell-Ravenheart, I forward the following on to let you know of some dreadful news from one of the dear hearts of our community. I know I would not be here if it wasn't for her, and I bet there are many among you who feel the same.
Dear Friends,

I just got home from being with Morning Glory at the hospital since yesterday afternoon. They rolled out a little cot for me to sleep on. I thought she'd be coming home yesterday or today, but they're still keeping her in there. This morning her surgeon did a chyphoidplasty on her to inject some hard dental filler into the breakage in her sacrum. She felt much better this afternoon, after the operation. Her weight is now distributed more evenly, taking the pressure off the spinal nerve, so she can walk with less pain. We're hoping they'll let her come home tomorrow.

She spent some time writing a message in her journal which she asked me to transcribe and send out to everyone, so here it is…

Please feel free to pass this on to anyone whom you think should know…

Blessings,
Oberon

7:57 am - Billiards Night

aleeceh
In case you missed it on the Yahoo! list, we're having a pool night this week over at the Blue Cue, Wednesday night, 7-9 pm. We're auditioning the place as a regular 1st Wednesday meeting venue while we're at it, so come join the fun, even if you don't play (I don't!), and help us scope it out.

The Blue Cue is in Midtown Sac. It's one of the Paragary Group places, like Cafe Bernardo, Esquire Grill, Centro, Paragary's, etc. I don't have the address handy, but it's on the Yahoo! Group's calendar, or you can find it using MapQuest or Google. It was a couple of blocks from the Sutter Galleria, our current 1st Wednesday venue.

11:49 pm - Meeting Reminder

aleeceh
Our regular monthly 1st Wednesday meeting at Sutter Galleria is this week. See you there at 7. RSVP in our Yahoo! Group's polls area.

I have three discussion ideas this time, and we can talk about one, two, all, or none, whatever people are interested in:

+ STDs and safer sex practices

+ future change of venue for the 1st Wed Sac meeting, and/or other changes to meeting scheduling or locations

+ continuation of the "how to get dates" and "what to do on dates" discussions that have been going on on the email list

As usual, feel free to discuss the above on the email list as well if you're not planning to be at the meeting.
